YAY!!! Finally!

Hello All.

I've been struggling keeping up with social media, blog post, updating playlist, as well as writing. But now I have this linked to my website so it will make things a heck of a lot easier to get the blogging done, while also still updating everything else.

So, I realize I've only updated the playlist every month. I was posting blog updates on my website and didn't post here. Yes, I'm a terrible updater.

Here's what I've accomplished so far. Ready?

Vacation time

I'm like SO EXCITED for my Vacation! Seriously!

We did a little weekend trip during Memorial Day and it was kind of awesome. We went to an amusement park. Okay, I sort of have to say why it was kind of awesome and not completely awesome. So standing in line waiting for this completely amazing ride with my DD. There is this girl behind us and her friend. The one girl had on fake nails that needed filled but decided to rip them off. Whatever. To each their own. It was when one of those nails landed on my leg that I was like "Gross!" She spit her nail on my leg. Who does that? Then instead of saying she was sorry which a normal person with a soul would have done she laughed. WHAT THE HELL?

But you should know and be very proud of me. Instead of going on a raging fit like I really wanted to. I gave her a nasty look that completely shut her and her friend down from giggling. Then I said rather loudly to my daughter, "I hope if you do something by accident, even if it's completely gross or uncalled for you apologize to the person you may have possibly did something gross or uncalled for to." My daughter looked back at me and then at the girls behind us. "Don't worry mom I'm not rude!"

And this made me proud of my parenting skills.

Now hopefully my vacation will be relaxing, funtastic, and well, drama free. Umbrella drinks for all!

Mental notes are good for the soul

Characters running a muck in your head is weird, right? I can't remember the last time I started dinner and didn't have these thoughts following: As she stirs the pasta his arms wrap and lock her into place. His lips ...

It's a little disturbing I know. But this is how my brain works. It's constantly going on and on. It doesn't shut off hell even when I'm about to go to bed it's still rummaging through potential scenes. When I watch movies I no longer sit there and just watch. Nope. I'm picking apart things I truly love and try to twist it into something that could be good for whatever I'm working on. Same with novels. I can't just read them. Nope. I'm sitting there thinking about how the author captured my attention. How they found my soul and destroyed it when the character I'm rooting for gets some devasting news.

Point is I'm constantly taking mental notes. You should be too. Ideas are everywhere.

As I'm working on two novels at one time I'm a little more aware. I've been reading and watching picking apart the best parts and pulling them into something so it ends up being great. Who do I study? Everyone. Not just the best selling authors. I study everyone. Sure, there might be some disappointing reads in there because I'm studying everyone. But even with those disappointing reads, I can still learn something. Like what I won't do because it left me unsatisfied. Rushing just to finish. Jumping about from thing to thing. Not researching things fully but putting them in there just to be there because it sounds good.

What? People don't do that. they do though. There are some books you might pick them up and think how in the world did this garbage get published. Here's the thing though, it does. Possibly self and sometimes not. Someone buys it. Someone reads it. And here is the thing even with a book that might let you down there might be something good in it. Learn from them.

Best,

And things just got creepy

Riddle me this, why can we not thank people anymore without the conversation to turn creepy? What kind of things make a conversation creepy? Here's one:

Person says "Mornin. I'm a new fan."
As an author I think this is awesome. So this is my typical response: "Thank you :) "
Now, please tell me if this is weird? All I did was thank the person. Because I'm really grateful for all my friends. What I'm not cool with is what happens next.
Person asks, "And your only 17?"

I realize not everyone is a super grammar snob in which I'm not cause I can over look the fact they use the wrong you're. My problem is the fact this person is asking about my age. Why would you want to know if I was ONLY 17? But to solve this question is No, I'm not 17 and haven't been for a while. This however makes me think of the worst in a person. Like the creepy people I protect my kids from.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting here but I have to. I want to thank fans. I want to enjoy messages from fans not flag, or keep people from me. But I must protect my family and friends. Am I wrong here?

How would you deal?

Excerpt

Bryce releases February 23, 2016. Yes 19 days away! Wahooo. You can preorder you copy right now Here.

So while I am finishing up the final touches on Graham. Here is a small snippet of Bryce.

I’m half-tempted to drop this box and tell her good, because I don’t want to fucking help. But I catch the sad glimmer in her eyes, and damn it, it ceases all my asshole retorts. “Look. It’s clear neither of us want to be here. Let’s just get this done as quick as possible, and we can go back to doing what we love to do best.”
She stares blankly up at me.
“Ignoring each other, Smalls.”
“Okay.”
We get back to work quietly. As we head out of the basement with the boxes, I decide to try and be nice, like Graham suggested. I’ve got a feeling we’re going to be stuck with each other a lot if he’s making headway with her cousin. “So, what’s up with the ‘no one in your room’ policy? Got some secrets in there?”
“Everyone has secrets,” she shoots back.
I chuckle. “Ain’t that the truth. But you, Miss Goody Two-shoes, don’t have dark secrets. Bet your room is a picture-perfect, princess pink.” I nudge her.

She enters a room off to the right, and I follow. My jaw almost hits the floor. Her walls are not pink, they’re white. The way she kept her room off-limits, I expected shirtless guy models posted all over her walls. But there is none of that in here, just paintings. Lots of different paintings.

Feel this

This whole you only have so many hours in a day and need so much sleep to function correctly is well ... tough sometimes. Life is always changing. Kids get sick and now you have to leave work early in order to get them. Hey, what the heck can you do? Sit around and cry about it or just deal with it and move on? Life happens.

As my cover reveal for Bryce is looming near, I'm excited and overly nervous. Nervous because I LOVE this book. I seriously never had so much fun writing. These characters cracked me up. Literally I was at the computer laughing while typing. Possibly looking really really crazy but it happens. But that's not what I love most. What really got me was the feel of this. The life part of the book that was well, fun. That's why we read right? To find ourselves into someone else's life story. Cheering for them. Crying with them. Yes Feelings.

Anyways I hope you love the little snippet I left from Bryce at the bottom of this. Currently finishing up book #2 Graham again really loving these characters. Fun witty characters are always a blast to write. Back to writing and in my editing cave.

I glare out my window at her house. Graham sighs. “Oh, come on. That was kind of funny. You know she’s just getting back at you for the wet T-shirt bullshit you pulled on her at Greg’s party.”
Okay, in all fairness, that was a dick move on my part. But I’m an asshole. Everyone who knows me knows this, especially Madison. I’m not going to apologize for being me. She was wearing a white T-shirt, and I happened to stumble upon some water balloons. So, I may have run up to Greg’s balcony with a bowl of filled balloons and waited for Madison to come into view. Then I launched them in a way that got her T-shirt soaked, revealing the parts she always keeps hidden. Literally, the girl goes swimming in dark shirts.
I’m a guy. We like boobs and ass. Sorry, ladies, if this offends. Some of us aren’t as open about it. Those of us who are are pigs. We know this. We just don’t care.
Anyway, Madison’s sharp green eyes found me through the laughing crowd, and she made the slit-your-throat sign at me. Pissed off, raging mad, and blushing red, Madison is actually really hot. That’s probably why I love tormenting her so much. Plus, it amuses me.

Being an author

You want to be an author, fantastic. You're taking the serious steps of getting your book published this means you've stepped out of the "This is a hobby" to "This is a job" stage.

Wait, this is a job?

Yes, this is a job. Welcome to the hard road and dedication it will take to get you through this. Trust me, you'll need it.

Over the months you might spend your time trying to create the most wonderful one of a kind masterpieces. You might even be a closet writer like I was for a long time. People would ask, "What are you doing?" I'd freak-out shut down my word and say, "Nothing." Because at the time I was completely scared that my work sucked. But eventually, very slowly I might add, I began to share. Bit by bit. It's a process, and again, eventually you'll share.

Next comes the figuring out your path. I tried the agent thing first and I ended up with the wrong one the first time around. This happens. Sometimes no matter the research sometimes you just end up with the wrong agent. The good thing about this possibly painful realization is that you know now what you need and are looking for. Hopefully, you find it. I didn't search for an agent until after I published my second novel through Swoon Romance.

Yes, I went the Indie route, and you know what? I love it. I can honestly say I've grown and have learned more going this route than trying to do things myself. Or trying to find a place for my works in the world. Is it for everyone? Probably not. Some people are happy with self publishing and you know what? Good for you. I'm glad. It doesn't make this person any less of an author than me. If you think differently then ok, but let me ask you this, if a person is selling his or her books whether or not online or in stores does this not make them an author? Let me ask another question, did this person write a novella or a full length novel? Then wouldn't this make them an author if their work went from being an MS to being sold?

Point is don't judge people by what form of publishing route they take. Agent or unagented. Self-published, Indie, or Traditional. If their books are out there they are an author.

Happy writing.

Review/rate/star away

As an author, there are things we must and mustn't do.

Do tell readers how much you like them.
Don't tell people who gave you a bad review how much they may suck.

While I am talking about reviews, what do you consider a bad review? Here is what I think a bad review is: 0-1 star, yeah, that's bad. 2-3 is average but not BAD. 4-5 is great!

So when I see on Goodreads lots of 3-4-5 star ratings and a few 1-2 that tells me the book is good or decent. Now, if it has a lot of 1-2 star ratings and very little 3-5 star ratings that tells me the book is not so hot.

This seems logic right?

The problem with this though, is sometimes Authors tend to look at only the bad reviews and focus on this. Only this. And they really shouldn't. What? Yes, I mean what I said. Don't focus on the three or five bad reviews out of 200. Seriously, what does that matter?

The only thing this tells you is that 195 or more people think your book is Amazing! 3 to 5 people don't. Wow.

How about these odds, there are over a billion people in the world. There is one person out of a billion that doesn't care for your book. Wow, again, wow.

So, let me ask you this, why are you focused on the negative review? 1 out of a billion. Odds don't seem so terrible now do they? That review isn't that scary now is it?

Then and now

I'd like to share a tale about a girl who struggled, fought, and see how jealous people can truly become when one achieves her dreams.

There was once a girl who loved books. Loved them so much she decided to write a few herself. She finished a few 3 to be exact. The girl researched and researched day and night, night and day, working on the next steps.

Perfecting a query letter. It seem so hard. How can someone summarize so much awesomeness into three paragraphs or less? She did it though. She managed it after a lot of tries and a lot of failures. She also did a synopsis. Same try and fail procedures but eventually landed one that was sure to be just what she needed.

Next she revised, sending her babies off to Beta Readers and Critique Partners she met on writing sites she joined. And once she was fully satisfied with her work, she was ready for the next step. Researching agents seemed easy enough. They all seemed great and amazing and wonderful, but this person had to be everything she couldn't be.

Rejections poured in by the dozens. The girl didn't know what went wrong. She did it all right. But she wasn't given in and kept working. Kept fixing, writing and eventually got some requests. She could do this. She could really do this.

When she got her first yes, she didn't know what to do. She felt confident in her choice and it seemed like a good pick so she said yes. But the girl learned very quickly that some things that come in pretty little packages are not the gifts you want in the end. After a long year the girl was bitter and felt deceived. She looked back on it and realized things were broken, and it was too late to fix. And the hollowness grew until there was just a huge black hole. She felt like her whole world was crashing in on her and her dreams were slowly disappearing. She vowed to never feel this way again. She wrote through her pain. Wrote through her jealously of people she knew landing things that she wished had happened for her.

The girl wrote and worked harder than ever. She read books to help her improve. She sought out new ways to make her book unique, wonderful, and have a flare like no other. And she also decided when the time submit was right, she'd do it on her own. So she worked on a few different things and decided to submit, only this time it was to a publisher and not an agent.

After first her idea was good, but they wanted the girl to revise and resubmit. So she worked on the revision. She was going to get this right. She was determined to never fail again. And eventually the girl resubmitted and got a yes.

Now her book is doing well. She figured people would rejoice with her as she had with them. She hid her jealous green monster from them and wished them the best. And even when she was jealous she never made a remark to let it show. But apparently others are not like her. They tear her down and say things that are not true.

For those who are green with envy please note this. The girl knows what kind of road she traveled and how long it took. She will never forget who to thank for all her good fortune, which are all the readers who love her book and continue to buy it. She will never miss an opportunity to say Thank You. It was hard and she's grateful for the longer journey. It makes her appreciate the good with the bad. And for those of you still finding your own path, just know no matter what there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Just keep working on it and you'll get there.

Happy Reading

Interview with Sky and Caleb from RIVAL LOVE

Book Info:

Publisher: Swoon Romance

Release Date: 8/26/14

Series: Rivals

Book #1

Question for Skylar

Tell me what is RIVAL LOVE?
Well, it’s about me, Skylar Fletcher. I’m a proud Harris Academy Bulldog! I have everything a girl could want: a perfect boyfriend, great friends, and my dream college is waiting for me in the fall. Well … that’s until my mom decides it’s time to move and drags me off into Bobcat territory.
At Delmont High, home of the Bobcats, I have no friends and often bullied. To make matters worse my home life blows thanks to all-star quarterback Caleb Morgan, nephew of my mom’s live-in boyfriend.
Caleb and I can’t stand each other from the start. But he’s hot. Like really hot, and he has his moments where he can be super sweet. But can a Bulldog and a Bobcat be anything other than enemies? And is Caleb and I willing to risk everything to find out?
I don’t know, you’ll have to go read it and see.

Question for Caleb
When Skylar moves in how do you feel?
At first? I hate it. I can’t have parties anymore. Can’t have my friends over on the weekends to just chill because enemy #1is living in my uncle’s house with us. But now … it’s great. She makes me laugh, pushes me to be better, and she knows how to hold her ground.

This question is for both of you
Are you two glad about the move?
Now, yes, I mean … I found out a lot about myself.- Sky
Me too. I can honestly say my skills have improved due to someone telling me where my quarterback skills were lacking. (winks at Skylar) But most of all, I can say we both grew from this.- Caleb
Yes, especially me. My ideas and plans or the things I had set as ideas and plans did change but only a little. And I guess I needed to see that the surface or things I thought defined me doesn’t.- Sky

Is there any songs you two love?
Yes!- they both answer.
I love Lost in the Echo by Linkin Park. That’s my Jam. –Skylar
If you run by You Me at Six-Caleb
This isn’t goodbye by Train- Skylar
Sorrow by The National- Caleb
Bubble Games by Magic Bronson – They say together.

What do you two think about your author?
Natalie is amazing.-Skylar
Eh, she’s alright. Kind of crazy.-Caleb
What? No, she isn’t. She’s really funny and nice.- Skylar
Kidding. She’s cool. Girl likes football. Used to swim and play softball like Sky here. And she bakes a hella batch of cookies.-Caleb
Gotta crush you need to confess, Caleb?-Skylar
No.- Caleb
Uh huh. He just likes her cookies.-Skylar

Well, who doesn’t like cookies? And don’t try to act all cute and innocent over there. You ate more than I did.-Caleb

SUMMARY

How far into the hollow would you go?

“After losing her parents in a terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, fifteen-year-old Honoria escapes New York City to Arnn—a farming town with more legends than residents, and a history of witchcraft and secrets best left buried.

Everyone in Arnn knows the story of Witchwood Hollow: if you venture into the whispering forest, the witch will trap your soul among the shadowed trees. In the lure of that perpetual darkness, Honoria finds hope when she should be afraid, and a past of missing children and broken promises.  To save the citizens of Arnn from becoming the witch’s next victims, she must find the truth behind the woman’s madness. How deep into Witchwood Hollow does Honoria dare venture?”

ESCAPE FROM WITCHWOOD HOLLOW is Jordan Elizabeth’s first novel.  This young adult fantasy will be published through Curiosity Quills Press on October 29, 2014.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jordan Elizabeth, formally Jordan Elizabeth Mierek, can’t get enough of the woods, be it splashing through a stream, sitting beneath an ancient oak, or following a path up a hill.  Some of those adventures have led to abandoned foundations.  Exploring the rocks and crumbling bricks sparked Jordan to imagine who might have lived there before, and that train of thought carried her to a wicked legend and an enchanted hollow.  You can contact Jordan via her website, JordanElizabethMierek.com

You don’t have to wait for October 29th to explore Witchwood Hollow.  Jordan Elizabeth is offering up a free eArc.  To enter for your chance to win a copy of ESCAPE FROM WITCHWOOD HOLLOW, you will need to share the cover.  This can be on your blog, Facebook, Twitter… Each time you share the cover image, log it into Rafflecoper to record it.  It will give you more chances to win.  The drawing for the winner will be held on October 20th.

Music moves me

When I write, it's with music blasting in the background. The scenes are set by my music. It sounds weird, but it's true. This is how I write. Others may listen to stuff here and there but they might not need to be surrounded by lyrics or beats.

Music sets my mood. Lyrics drive my words. Depending on my characters too, I can usually listen to songs that would relate to them. So here is a little preview of RIVAL LOVE's Playlist.

Rival Love Playlist

1. I want you here by Plumb- This would be Skylar's song or at least the first part of the book

2. Hopeless by Train- This is another one of Skylar's songs when she realizes going back just isn't going to happen

3. Loose lips by Ourlives- This would be Caleb's song during Dinner

4. Solving and Running by Kiev- This is another one of Caleb's songs at school

5. Demons by Imagine Dragons- This is Skylar and Caleb's song.

6. Lost In the Echo by Linkin Park- This is Sky's song as she begins to transition

7. Pen and Paper by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus- This is Caleb's song when he's playing football

8. Bulletproof by Evans Blue- This is Sky's song when she tries to hide her emotions

9. Sorrow by The National- This is Caleb's song when he thinks about his parents

10. The New Black by Moon Taxi- This is Sky's song when she decides to train Kayla

11. Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran- This is Sky's song when she realizes her feelings for Caleb

12. Bubble Games by Magic Bronson- This is Sky and Caleb's song when they are learning about one another

13. Learning to Breathe by Switchfoot- This is Sky's song when she swims

14. I won’t let you by Snowpatrol- This is Caleb's song for Sky

15. Love Me Again by John Newman- This is Sky's song when she trains

16. Scars by Parlor Hawk- This is Caleb's song after the Championship game

17. If You’re Gone by Matchbox 20- This is Caleb's song before Thanksgiving Break

18. Don’t Deserve You by Plumb- This is Sky's song when she visits her dad

19. Poison and Wine by Civil Wars- This is Sky's song before she goes to open mic night

20. Time Go by Caught A Ghost- This is Caleb's song when he follows her

21. All That I Want by Dawn Golden- This is their song after Thanksgiving break

22. War Of Hearts by Russell Taylor- This is Sky's song when she enters the pool area

23. This Ain’t Goodbye- Train- This is Caleb's song ...
